An inexplicable turn of events has seen me spend a large part of the spring painting Mary, Queen of Scots. Not one, but three Marys have gone to new homes, as well as Elizabeth I. I have managed to sneak in a few animal portraits as well, so all in all it has been a busy period for my studio. More things are in the offing, so I look to be kept busy for the foreseeable future! I am quite sure that I am repeating myself, but on of the joys of our business is the people we meet, and the artists that I get to visit. This week, after a lengthy wait to find a mutual spot in diaries, we popped over to Burntisland in Fife to visit Leo du Feu, who has featured in a few of our shows over the years. As luck would have it, we picked a perfect day for an introduction to the area; Leo shares our love of the natural world and has plenty to teach us where birds are concerned. Our walk took us past a beautifully tranquil pond up on the Binn, behind Burntisland town. Leo and Stuart were watching a flycatcher, as well as a little grebe and her chick. I'm don't often dabble in landscape, but days like these certainly make me itch to get out my pencils.... Leo will be showing some work with us over the Festival in August; his website is www.leodufeu.co.uk Our current show will be up through June, with some changes along the way which I will keep you posted with! The first episode features new work from Mary Archibald (below), some stunning pieces from Joyce Gunn Cairns, tapestry weaving from Jane Binks and a few 'vintage' pieces of my own.

We are having a change of show on 22nd May - so still plenty of time to get along to see the beautiful work of Dina Campbell, who has been brightening our front gallery this spring. There are still some really stunning pieces left for sale, but once they are gone... Hope you will come and have a look over the weekend. I have had quite a strange year so far; the output of my studio has consisted of moustached women, cats, a whole flock of sheep, and now Tudors?! May 2015 will be partly remembered as the month I sold two Marys; first one and then another Mary Queen of Scots left the building, soon to be followed by an Elizabeth I, commissioned to be a pair to one of them. You couldn't make it up really. From Saturday 23rd we have a mixed show with a return visit from textile artists Jane Binks and Mary Archibald, alongside a delve into the archives of my work....
I have been persuaded to dig into the great pile of work in my house and will be having a bit of a clearance sale; lots of work from pre Bon Papillon at slightly silly prices. Some of this is below! |
