Bernadette moved up to Edinburgh from Hertfordshire, where she had taught as Head of Art at an English prep school. Freed from the constraints of full-time work, like many women artists this is the first time that she has been able to really spread her wings and concentrate on her artistic work.
Working from her studio at home in Stockbridge, with courses at Leith School of Art under her belt, she also has a passion for life drawing and spends long hours in classes painting and drawing direct from models.
Three distinct strands of work have been appearing over the last couple of years; the life studies and paintings derived from them, often using mixed media and experimental techniques, still life work and natural history studies: for this show at Bon Papillon we have focused on the still life work.
Like many artists, the natural world is also a draw for inspiration, but one of the things I really like about speaking to Bernadette and looking at her work is her obvious passion for the process of making art.
Bernadette Levoir's still life paintings will be showing with us until the first week of August; please get in touch via our contact page if you are interested in any work or for more information. (WE ARE CLOSED FOR HOLIDAYS FROM 11TH - 19TH JULY)
